Sponsoring a Family Member

It is a common misconception that sponsoring a family member for immigration to the United States is both fast and easy. There are very specific and detailed rules that restrict both the individuals providing and the individual receiving sponsorship. This maze of rules also includes country-specific restrictions, which can significantly increase the amount of time it takes for an application to be approved. If the relative interested in receiving a green card is not your spouse, child or parent, it may make more sense to use one of the other seven paths to permanent residency.

Sponsoring a Spouse

Another common misconception is that the United States will automatically grant permanent residency and U.S. citizenship to anyone who marries a U.S. citizen. This is simply not true. Also, it is extremely important that the spouse of a U.S. citizen apply for permanent residency promptly and properly because violating immigration laws can, and will, result in being deported.

The Best Path for You

Our experienced Greensboro family-based green card lawyers will investigate the situation, examine all of the details, and identify all of the immigration options available to you, your spouse or your relatives, including alternate immigration benefits, such as the H-1B visa, the nonimmigrant visa and asylum. We will work with you to craft a strategy based on the fastest methods available.
